To the MJA team,
I know that today is a difficult day for all of us. I am sad that we will be closing our doors after a fantastic 50 years working with a brilliant term to serve the local community.
There are so many people that I would like to thank and highlight for helping me and MJA on this journey, including everyone reading this letter. I am grateful to all of you.
But rather than focus on the sad closure, I would also like us to take a moment to recognise some of the key milestones we have achieved together:
• MJA has been trading for 50 years. When it started in 1974, Harold Wilson was Prime Minister, Muhammad Ali was yet to fight George Foreman and mobile phones had not yet been dreamed of. That is a long time to survive.
• Over those 50 years MJA has sold over 100,000 cars which would collectively be worth well over £1bn. For context it would take 31 years to count to 1 billion - it is a huge number.
• MJA has employed over a hundred people, all of whom who have contributed to its success. Several team members have worked with MJA for over 30 years.
• MJA has achieved success in a wide variety of forms. Everything from Peugeots to Porsches, from cars to vans, sales to rental. It's not been a one trick pony.
Mary and I are proud of MJA. Despite old eyes, we can still spot an MJA number plate from 20 yards whilst on the move, and it still makes us happy. It really has been a fabulous 50 years and a testament to a team effort.
Thank you to all of you for your help in supporting me on this journey and wishing you all every success in whatever is ahead of you.
Mike Garrett
